Founded in 1967 by Orestis Doumanis, a civil engineer with a lifelong interest in architecture and the arts, Architecture in Greece became the country's seminal architectural annual for the latter half of the twentieth century, publishing both project-based features and theoretical essays by notable figures from Greece and abroad.
Doumanis followed architectural developments not only in Greece but abroad, visiting major exhibitions across Europe, and went on to found a sister publication, Design in Greece, in 1970, which broadened the scope to contemporary visual arts, applied arts, and industrial design. Together the two reviews ran for nearly six decades, forming a near-uninterrupted record of modern Greek architecture and its critical reception.
The full run of both magazines was digitised in 2024 by archivist Chara Zotou on behalf of the Hellenic Institute of Architecture (EIA), which now hosts and publishes the digital reproductions of both titles, alongside the related monograph series and an index/search function of its own. The list of issue links below is published here with the Institute's permission, and each one opens directly in the EIA's own flipbook viewer rather than a copy hosted by us.
