The magazine Architektoniki (Architecture), under the direction of Antonis Kitsikis and the editorial supervision of Konstantinos Kitsikis and Doris Makris, was the first attempt in Greece to create a modern professional magazine up to international and European standards. Characteristically, articles were published in four languages: Greek, English, French, and German. A second unique point was that the magazine engaged strongly with issues that dealt with the Greek identity — both in terms of building typologies (archaeology, restoration) and the resolution of national issues (spatial planning, landscape protection). This also extended to historical and theoretical approaches, such as the publication of studies on aesthetics by P. Michelis, thereby emphasizing the need of modernism to adapt to the Greek context.
