The magazine "Das Neue Frankfurt" was tasked with promoting to the wider public the new forms of building, living, and cultural life under development in the city of Frankfurt of the inter-war period. The design of the magazine contributed to its public appeal with bold lines and vivid collages. Under the direction of Ernst May, the "New Frankfurt" was the first comprehensive urban development and social program of its kind , with mass housing at its core, popularizing among other things the Frankfurt kichen of Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky.
